Summit Welcome

Bobbi Parish, MA, CTRC-S

Bobbi is a survivor of significant childhood and adult trauma. As a result, she struggled with depression so severe that it left her disabled, bouncing in and out of seven psychiatric wards, homeless and physically ill. She found it difficult to find high quality, trauma informed mental health help. After navigating much of her recovery on her own she earned her Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. In 2014 she shifted from therapy to coaching, pioneering the field of Trauma Recovery Coaching. Bobbi founded The International Association of Trauma Recovery Coaching in 2017. In six years she has developed six different certification programs, writing the curriculum for and teaching all of them. The Association has educated more than 800 coaches around the globe. As a trauma survivor herself, Bobbi not only leads and teaches within the Association, but works with trauma survivors in her private coaching practice. She is a trained IFS Practitioner, Level 3 Certified Trauma Informed Stabilization Practitioner and certified HeartMath Coach.

Workshop Title: Reframing Responsibility to be our Greatest Gift

Workshop Description:  As children who have suffered any form of trauma in our lives, the word responsibility gets misconstrued, and it becomes detrimental to our wellbeing. As children living in our abusive households, we either become uber responsible in keeping all the balls in the air at all times, taking responsibility for everything and everyone or we go to the other extreme where we become utterly irresponsible with dire consequences emerging from either extreme. In both scenario we take these effects with us into our adult lives and the results are never positive. As adults seeking recovery and freedom from the effects of trauma in our lives today, we need to change the meaning of the word “responsibility” to a positive one. Becoming responsible for our wellbeing in our lives today, could potentially be the greatest gift we can ever give ourselves. In this talk, I will go in depth on what we ARE NOT responsible for and what we ARE responsible for. I will breakdown the various stages of responsibility, and offer a way to shift the meaning, approach and practice of responsibility in our lives today, to one that truly works for us. We will discover that responsibility becomes synonymous to breathing: For us to breathe out we must first breathe in. For us to experience freedom from trauma we must first take responsibility for our recovery.

: The Responsibility Revolution
Reframing Responsibility to be our Greatest Gift

Vincent Castellanos, CTRC

I am a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach (CTRC), residing in Los Angeles skilled in working with adults who struggle with complex trauma and addiction. I work with individuals & groups. Living as a sober individual since 1994 and working with alcoholics, allows me to help those struggling with addiction in the same way that my own recovery from trauma allows me to bring lived experience to my practice as a CTRC. My approach is client led and constraint release based. The most essential feature of my practice is the creation of a safe environment where trust can develop between coach and client. I believe the most important aspect of complex trauma recovery coaching is the relationship forged by client and coach and I provide a nonjudgmental and safe environment in which we can explore and solve issues collaboratively. Prior to obtaining my certification as a CTRC through the International Association of Trauma Recovery Coaching (IAOTRC), I had a multifaceted career; most notably as an actor in Hollywood in film and TV projects like Mulholland Drive, The Crow II, Anaconda, Twin Peaks, Six Feet Under.

Workshop Title: Respectful Parenting with Complex Trauma

Workshop Description:  Parenting is an inherently challenging endeavor, but when our clients grapple with unacknowledged trauma, the journey becomes even more arduous, often accompanied by overwhelming emotions such as rage and resentment. This can be even harder on those who are trying to practice Respectful Parenting. These emotional struggles can perpetuate the cycle of complex trauma, leaving a lasting impact on future generations. To facilitate the healing process, it is crucial to meet individuals where they are, using language that resonates with their life experiences. Many of our clients may not readily recognize the need for complex trauma recovery, sometimes deliberately avoiding such terminology, all the while struggling to parent appropriately, "consciously", "peacefully", or "respectfully"… "Unpacking Triggers" represents our commitment to supporting parents who may mistakenly interpret their children's behaviors as misbehavior, unaware that these reactions often originate from their own unaddressed trauma and emotional wounds. This program serves as an introductory step towards a personal healing journey that has the potential to transform our clients' relationships with their children, fellow caregivers, and even their own parents.

The focus is on simple, sustainable and flexible shifts that positively impact relationships with children, partners, and parents. Her group coaching programs foster collective learning and celebrate wins. Workshop Title: Restorative Response System Theory (RReST)
Workshop Description: In my presentation at the International Association Of Trauma Recovery Coaching 2023 Summit, I will delve into the groundbreaking Restorative Response System Theory (RReST) that I have authored. This theory offers a transformative perspective on trauma reactions—Fight, Flight, Freeze, and Fawn—by introducing the concept that our ventral vagal nervous system responds with Rhythm, Rise, Resolve, and Reframe. During the session, attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of how these resources serve as powerful tools to regulate the nervous system, guiding individuals back into their window of capacity after experiencing trauma or triggers. I will illuminate the intricate connections between the physiological responses of the nervous system and the practical techniques of RReST. By the end of the presentation, participants will have a clear grasp of the principles underpinning the RReST theory and its applications. They will take away actionable insights into how to assist trauma survivors in shifting from survival modes to restorative states, fostering resilience and well-being. My session promises to equip attendees with a fresh perspective and tangible strategies for trauma recovery coaching, enhancing their ability to support individuals on their healing journeys.
